2024 Chapter Scholarship Recipients

Considering the quality and quantity of applications, the Chapter increased this year’s scholarship budget to $8,150 (we typically distribute up to $6,500 each year in up to six scholarships categories).  The Mid-Atlantic Chapter received eight (8) applications for the 2024 Scholarship Program and six (6) received an award. There were five (5) Category 1 applicants, one (1) 1A applicant, and one (1) applicant each for Categories 2 and 3.

The highest scorer Natalia Ipatova received the $2,000 George L. Winfield Memorial Scholarship Award. As a category 1A winner, Natalia plans to major in Information Systems at Rider University, NJ. She’s sponsored by her mother Mariia Liubarskaia who is a Chapter member.

Kiran Blackwell receivedan award amount of $1,900. Kiran plans to major in Information Systems at College Park, University of Maryland. He is sponsored by his mother Niti Blackwell, Engineer III, Howard County, who is a Chapter Director.

Mackenzie Gutberlet, receivedan award amount of $1,250. Mackenzie is the daughter of Mark Gutberlet, a Chapter Director and Business Unit Director at EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. Mackenzie plans to major in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, PA.

Ronan Landis received an award amount of $1,000. Ronan is the son of Jeffery Landis, Senior Technical Advisor at Maryland Environmental Service. and plans to major in Data Science & Analytics at Eastern University, PA.

Amanda Siciliano received an award amount of $2,000. Amanda is a student member with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Ph. D. candidate pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Maryland.

All sponsors and student members are active members and in good standing. The Chapter forwarded Amanda Siciliano (Category III), Matthew Romero (Category II) and Kiran Blackwell (Category I) applications for review and consideration by SWANA National HQ for a chance of an additional scholarship.

The Chapter award presentation occurred at the June 10, 2024 MRN/SWANA Mid-Atlantic Annual Conference.
